On May 2nd and 3rd, tech enthusiasts from the surrounding areas of the Netherlands and as far as Singapore and Oman congregated for a 2-day intensive GAFE summit at the International School of Amsterdam.
I had the pleasure and the opportunity to share my experiences as a classroom teacher using Kaizena, eduCanon with the help of Doctopus & Goobric to provide meaningful feedback to my students in a timely-manner when assigning various activities through Google Classroom.

- eduCanon works the same as EDpuzzle; however, it integrates easier with your LMS and GAFE accounts. So there's no need to create or have your students create usernames and passwords, then can easily Login with their Google account. You can then monitor their performance and understanding while watching a video from either Khan Academy, TeacherTube, YouTube, Vimeo or more ... This is where the flipped classroom kicks in as student will not just watch a video but rather interact with the video as they answer multiple choice or open-ended questions, fill-in-the blanks or spare a moment to reflect on the learning that is taking place.
- Kaizena Mini as an add-on on Google Docs allows you to provide voice or written comments to a specific part of the Docs. Just recently, they revamped their design and have introduced Lessons. A new way to save and create your "lessons" of canned responses that may either be a voice comment, a written comment or even add a link to your eduCanon flipped video so that your students' learning may continue beyond the brick and mortar setting!
... then simply ingest your Google Classroom assignment through Doctopus and attach your rubric, then use the Goobric Web App Launcher and you'll be set to provide students with:
- A rubric for them to know how they were evaluated,
- Voice or written comments on specific words, phrases or drawings within their Doc ... with the possibility for them to extend their learning beyond just comments as they will have access to ...
- ... a flipped video through eduCanon where you can track/monitor whether they watched the video or not.
A tip and trick shared at my presentation:
- Permanent Clipboard is Chrome extension that will save your most used canned-responses and with a right-click you can access them whenever you need them. No need to spend too much time writing the same comments and/or suggestions over and over again! Give it a try, it's soooo worth it!
